ABOUT WHAT WE DO
FLATFOOT DANCE COMPANY’s mission is to keep pushing the boundaries of space, place and belonging in its dance performance work and encourages both the growth of choreographers within the company, as well as committing to artistic collaborations and partnerships where possible. Apart from performance works created by Lliane Loots, Sifiso Khumalo, Jabu Siphika and Zinhle Nzama, FLATFOOT has had the privilege of partnering with choreographers like Fana Tshabalala (South Africa), Virva Talonen (Finland), Gaby Saranouffi (Madagascar/South Africa), Andile Vellum (South Africa), Yaseen Manuel (South Africa), Adriaan Luteijn (Netherlands), Vincent Mantsoe (South Africa), Kevin Iega Jeff (USA), Adeayo Liadi (Nigeria), Sifiso Kweyama (South Africa), and Daniel Renner (Austria).
TRAINING COMPANY
FLATFOOT Training Company is aimed at any young adult dance practitioner who wishes to train in a professional environment.
Our trainee programme is a part-time programme to help many of the young trainees find a future in the dance arena free of charge.
COMMUNITY DANCE ENGAGEMENT
FLATFOOT DANCE COMPANY has twenty-five years of community dance engagement work behind its name. We work with about 600 children and youth per year in our city of Durban/eThekwini.
FLATFOOT uses the philosophy and methodology of the educational expert Paulo Freire. The idea of “liberation education” encouraging systems of learning that both educate and liberate, allowing for self-expression and self-realisation.
INTEGRATED DANCE INITIATIVES
FLATFOOT DANCE COMPANY has a 20-year long history of working in integrated arts that included dance training and performance-based work with dancers possessing intellectual and physical disabilities.
FLATFOOT embraces the idea that dance is about creating community and about finding ways to humanise – in practice and in performance.
DANCE IN SCHOOLS
FLATFOOT’s mission is to support the growth of and offer quality professional dance work that tours to schools. Annually, FLATFOOT engages schools by offering workshops and master classes, and also by offering a touring performance that can be performed in almost any environment.
We understand that not all learners can come to a city theatre space so we come to you!

FLATFOOT DANCE COMPANY has performed in corporate events that encompass MTN, URBAN EDGE PRODUCTIONS, SPAR, VUMA, INDONI, DURBAN LIVING LEGENDS … to name only a few.
